TIME AND PLACE

New works by Alan Oliver & Brian Reinker

18th – 29th May 2021

The Fitzrovia Gallery, 139 Whitfield St, London, W1T

Time and Place is a new exhibition featuring works by studio partners Brian Reinker and Alan Oliver.  Combining collage, woven tapestries and rugs, and original works on paper, Time and Place will showcase work created by the artists during the Covid-19 pandemic of 2020/21.

Alan Oliver is a weaver, dyer and printer who uses traditional craft processes to make handwoven rugs, wall hangings and printed textiles.

Oliver’s practice is guided by his environment and the sense of identity born out of the learned physical history and storytelling inherent within traditional craft practices.  He often references specific localities in his work by anchoring them within aspects of history and folklore, and through the use of natural dyes made from locally collected and foraged resources.

In 2020 work by Oliver was purchased by the University of the Arts, London for their permanent collection.

Brian Reinker’s colourful abstractions and Op-Art based work depicts real and imagined places with the disciplined approach of an architect.

Working in the language of landscape, architecture and topography, and using crisp lines and precision, Reinker’s drawings, paintings and collage works use graphic elements to reinterpret landscapes and urban environments. Reinker’s aim is to distil the essence of these places, using a variety of techniques and media.

In January Reinker was named by Saatchi Art as one of their 21 artists to collect in 2021 https://www.saatchiart.com/stories/21artists/
