Here & There is a new exhibition featuring woven artwork by Alan Oliver.
Guided by his environment and the sense of identity born out of the learned physical history and storytelling inherent within traditional craft practices, the pieces presented here reference London, the maker’s home, through the use of natural dyes made from locally collected and foraged resources, but, also, explore history, ideas and folklore, to create a topographies of sorts, anchored to a specific locality, but not limited by it.
Alan Oliver is a weaver, dyer and printmaker who uses traditional craft practices to create handwoven rugs, wallhangings and printed textiles, as well as works on paper. He received his MA in textile design from Chelsea College of Art, and he exhibits regularly in London and across the UK. His work is highly unique and can be found in collections around the world, including the UAL (University of the Arts London) permanent collection.
